Welcome to the Room 7 blog!! We are excited to share our learning progress with a wider audience. Our work will be a mixture of unfinished, unpublished and completed tasks. Feedback is welcome in the form of two medals (positive), a mission (constructive next step) and a question. Thanks for taking the time to share in our learning.

Room 7's Mt Taranaki camp 2016
This term room 7 got asked by Taranaki kiwi trust team to help them experiment if there were any kiwi on the mountain. We stayed at konini lodge at the Dawson falls visitors centre. We had to walk around in three groups. We walked some tracks up and down steps, over bridges and streams. Ryan's group did the most walking and our leader was Nathan from the Taranaki kiwi trust and he held the speaker that makes the kiwi calls and we could only herd some calls. My highlight was climbing willies pools.
Camp experiences
We went on camp on Wednesday and came back to school on Thursday and camp was fun.
We walked in separate groups and met up at the end of the day, during the day we recorded male and female kiwi calls.
We also went on a night walk and found some weta.
Thank you to all the parents and teachers for making camp happen and keeping us safe.

Kiwi science experiment
In Room 7 we have been collecting Kiwi data for our camp up the mountain.
We worked on our experiments for one week but have been doing research for 1 term. Next Wednesday we are leaving school for 1 night and 2 days doing our experiments up on the mountain with Taranaki Kiwi Trust. We now think that a female call sounds like a hoot and a males call sounds like a screech. On our school field we set up a speaker with the male and female calls and every twenty metres we put two students at that spot and collected how many calls we could hear at each mark. We found out that the further the metres got the less calls we could hear, the furthest we went was 200 metres which would be two lengths of our school field. We are. Ow at the point of graphing on google sheets
How the durable is the equipment that we are using
In Room 7 we are recording male and female kiwi calls. We have recorded data of how many kiwi calls we heard, through windy conditions and rain. Our group is testing the durability of the equipments we are using. We are graphing the amount of kiwi calls we hear from a distance for example 20m - 120m. The wind effected us from hearing the kiwi calls and carried the sound through the air. We all had 20m intervals, 20m-120m. The durability group had trouble on deciding the experiments because we didn't want to break the gear. So we have to find something made of the same materials. So we hung it in a tree with a mat under it so if it fell it would have no damage on it. We have had so much fun.
Kiwi experiments
Leading up to our camp up the mountain, We have been doing experiments to see if the road noise interferes with us hearing kiwi calls. We used a phone and a Bluetooth speaker to create the sound of the calls of both the male and female kiwi call. We had to record how many times we could hear the female and male calls. Every time we heard one of the calls we had to put a dash down and then we did a graph with all the information. There was a person at twenty metre intervals recording how many calls they heard. Then we had to go onto an I-pad and make another graph showing the results of every test our group done. We are doing this for Taranaki Kiwi Trust for a research project that they are including schools in for the first time. There were other tests being done by other groups as well like durability, wind interference, range, depth and more. Doing all these tests will help us on our camp up the mountain so we can see what interferes with hearing a kiwi call and finding a kiwi. The data that we collect will be used to see how many kiwi are still on the mountain.

Ry's Health Quest Day 20
Day 20
Sorry I haven't been blogging lately, our computer died and mum just brought a new one.
Today I did athletics all day so I did a lot of running around. This was because the more I run around the healthier I get and it makes my muscles stronger.
I started my day with weetbix which was a healthy choice because it has fibre and not much sugar in it. I ate an apple with my lunch and a muesli bar. I did buy myself a couple of sweet things but that was alright really because I was doing lots of running so I burnt off a lot of fat.
I drank 2 glasses of water today but that wasn't enough to keep me hydrated especially because I was moving around a lot. I need to drink at least 5 glasses of water everyday especially on days like this when I am running around a lot.
My goal for tomorrow is to drink 5 glasses of water and eat at least 5 pieces of fruit and vegetables.

Homework
Hi Everyone,
On our google drive is a new shared folder. It is called 'Homework' and has a blue folder symbol. If you wish to work on some literacy there are 2 tasks. Please complete the tasks by creating ONE google doc in your personal folder that is shared with me. You do not need to make a copy of the homework task.
Enjoy! Miss Boatswain
